DETROIT, MI – August 13, 2026
The Gordie Howe International Bridge opened for travel on July 27, 2026, connecting Detroit, Michigan to Windsor, Ontario. SRM Concrete proudly batched and delivered the concrete on the U.S. side of this historic project.
The project began in October 2018, and SRM delivered the first of many loads of concrete in the summer of 2019. For the next six years, a steady supply of ready-mix concrete came from our Springwells site, located a few hundred yards south of the Detroit-side bridge tower.
“The Gordie Howe Bridge is a once-in-a-lifetime bridge project that we have had the privilege of working on,” said SRM Concrete CEO Jeff Hollingshead. “After entering the Detroit market as this project broke ground, our entire team stepped up to provide exceptional quality and service from cradle to grave, and we can’t thank our team members enough for their commitment to excellence.”
He continued, “We’d like to thank Bridging North America for trusting us to meet the demands of this landmark project, and we look forward seeing to how this infrastructure benefits Detroit for generations.”
The project specifications called for rigorous quality-control measures, including multiple stages of testing, to maintain compressive strengths of up to 10,000 psi. SRM’s quality-control team rose to the challenge, ensuring that every load met expectations.
