Fixed Assets - Accountant

Summary:

The Fixed Assets - Accountant is responsible for the management of the company’s extensive fixed assets process, including timely and accurate recording of asset additions, depreciation, and disposals. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, as well as collaboration with various teams internally and externally to ensure proper information is received prior to asset capitalization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the fixed assets accounting process; ensuring timely and accurate recording of fixed asset additions, disposals, and change requests into NetSuite fixed asset module.
  • Ensure assets placed into service contain proper audit support, including invoices and internal approvals, and that asset capitalization is in line with company accounting policy.
  • Manage the reconciliation of construction in project and major purchase accounts, working closely with internal teams to understand asset types as well as timing of when asset anticipated to be placed in service.
  • Perform cost adjustments, depreciation/amortization, retirement or disposal consistently with GAAP.
  • Review monthly asset additions and enter into fixed asset system for proper depreciation calculations.
  • Become the point person and expert on fixed asset accounting policies and procedures, educating the internal departments as necessary and responding to fixed assets questions and requests as they arise.
  • Analyze asset accounts to identify, document and correct discrepancies to ensure monthly reconciliations are accurately stated.
  • Participate in the monthly closing process by preparing fixed assets journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Participate in reconciling reports between fixed asset system and general ledger.
  • Tracked company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations.
  • Establish process improvements and continuously evaluate and enhance fixed assets process to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures to enhance department workflow and enable strong internal controls.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including integrated services and operations departments to gather necessary information to ensure proper capitalization of assets.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules and support as requested for quarterly reviews and annual audits.

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
  • Strong experience (3+ years) in fixed assets or general accounting roles, with evidence of expanding responsibilities.
  • Energetic, detail-oriented self-starter that has a “hands on” approach and strong focus on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability and desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing and improving environment.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., Great Plains, CS Fixed Assets, etc).
